Crow Head Stall and Bit C. 1880
A horse's ornamental beaded head stall with keyhole-shaped brow ornament and an early Navajo made bit. The keyhole design of the head stall was developed by the Crow and is unique to them. Early Navajo bits are not uncommon in Crow horse trappings. These stalls are part of the complete horse decoration still seen in Crow parades. For example see Fig. 1 Drew Bax Col. & PG. 35 of the book To Honor the Crow People. See also page 35 of the National Museum of the American Indian book, A Song for the Horse Nation.
